Running the Finger Lakes!

Running along Keuka Lake during the summer is probably my favorite time and place to run. The views are amazing, the air is fresh (minus the occasional smell of dead fish), and fellow runners, bikers, and walkers wave and say good morning.
I don't know how many people I have told about how much I enjoy running in this area. It's actually along these roads that I began my running "career" almost 15 years ago. I would run back and forth from the cottage to Keuka College, where I was a lifeguard and taught swim lessons. It was only about 3 miles round trip- but it was the start of something that has lasted a long time. I typically go without an iPod, watch, or plan of action while running here- the time generally passes quickly with so much to see. Since my sisters, cousins, and I grew up on this lake, I know distances and roads that can be used to extend or shorten routes- depending on how I'm feeling. Most of my runs range in the 7 to 9 mile zone while being here.
I think I have told a million people... probably a million times, that I want a pool, or lake, or some body of water to dive into after a run (especially with the heat in Monterrey). I try to explain how amazing it feels. Tomorrow one of those million people arrives from Monterrey, and he will be able to experience it for himself. It is by far my favorite part of running here, to be able to complete a run and cool off immediately... by jumping in the best lake in the Finger Lakes!
